That's me ... the 40-something in the polka dot yoga pants and cardigan.

I’m the owner (and director, and receptionist, and teacher, and janitor) here at Just for Kids Yoga. I used to teach both preschool and kindergarten (I double-majored at Ball State - #ChirpChirp) but fell in love harrrd with teaching kids yoga. So hard in fact, that I quit my job, got certified to teach kids yoga (twice, because I’m an overachiever like that), and decided to follow my passion by putting everything I had into opening JFK instead.

Let me tell you why ...

Working in schools, I saw first-hand how busy and stressful our little ones can be with social struggles, busy schedules, test-taking anxieties ... not to mention the physical tension of sitting hunched over desks for long periods of time.

Enter yoga.

Yoga helps kids build strength, and improve their posture, balance, flexibility, and coordination. Yoga helps teach children how to relax and destress ... which can also help with better focus, attention span, and sleep patterns.

I mean, come on. It's a win/win.

Sound good? Let me unroll a mat for your child in one of my next classes!

Already sold and wanna skip ahead to the schedule?

In order to make social distancing easier for my yogis, I'm keeping my classes small and capping them at 8 kiddos each. Before registering your child up for a class, please take time to read over the studio policies I've put into place to keep my yogis (and their families) as healthy and safe as I can during this time ...

It's waaay more than just teaching your child tree pose.

At Just for Kids Yoga, my goal is to introduce children to the benefits and joys of yoga, creative movement, and mindfulness. Every class offered will be filled with yoga poses, games, stories, and songs to help children improve their strength, balance, coordination, body awareness, and flexibility in a fun, kid-friendly way.

I also strongly believe in the emotional benefits of yoga, and will introduce children (even the littlest at age three) to meditative practices and breathing exercises that they can use to calm their bodies and minds on – and off – the mat.

Need a little more convincing about what yoga can do for your child?

When your child steps on his/her mat with me, these are the goals I try to work towards with each and every yoga class I teach ...

To give your child tools to control stress. I begin every class with breathing exercises. Your child will learn how to use these breathing techniques to slow down his heart rate and calm his mind in times of anxiety, distraction, stress, and anger. It's a tool he can carry with him to handle any difficult life situation.

To improve your child's flexibility, coordination, strength, and balance. This means fewer accidental falls on the playground, and less-severe injuries ... which is super beneficial if your child is an athlete.

To help boost your child's confidence. I see it. When your child learns how to control her body and flow successfully through yoga poses, it does wonders for her self-esteem. She becomes more poised and starts to believe in her abilities. And I'm there with her to cheer her on every step of the way.

To let your child feel part of a healthy, non-competitive group. Your child will discover that bodies are different, and different bodies do different things. That's okay. Nobody is better or worse at yoga ... we're all practicing and learning together. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses.

To improve your child's concentration skills. I end every class with a short, guided meditation. This helps your child learn how to sit (or lie) still in one place and focus, lengthening his attention span. This will help him at school when his mind tends to wander and he gets distracted easily.
